BASHandSlash offers a custom config to improve framerates
For most players with CoD4 experience, the frame rate hit you get playing CoD:WW will be a bit of a rude shock. While Infinity Ward opted to make CoD4 for the median PC systems out there, Treyarch appears to have gone the other route and catered more toward the high end systems.
What this means to you and me is that frame rates are lower than in CoD4. In some cases, much lower. Since frame rate ( = frames per second, or fps) is proportional to success in this game - increasing frame rate is very important.
Aside from the obvious, like ensuring that you shut down any non-used processes on your computer (anti-virus, VOIP, browsers…etc.), or getting a faster broadband connection (FIOS anyone?), the only immediate alternative we as gamers have, is to “tweak” our player configuration file.
We discussed the morality of doing this back in CoD4 and I will not go into that discussion here. Suffice it to say that back in CoD4, I tried to nurse a single-core system with a 6800 nVidia GPU through multiplayer. It was a struggle. Which is why desperation led to yitch1.cfg and subsequent…the game truly opened up for me and I began to pwn (for me that means not finishing at the bottom of the leader board ;).
The fact that I could go from a 50 fps to 200+ fps in CoD4 is a testament to the IW engineers who provided us with a DX9 game with Shader 3.0 *and* Shader 2.0 support. The latter was the key to all the good configurations out there.
In CoD:WW we face the struggle that there is no Shader 2.0 support at all. Any FPS gains will thus be difficult and will result in severely degraded graphics.
My first attempt at coming up with an “FPS” config was for the MP Beta called yitchwwbeta1.cfg. But now that we have the released version of the game…it’s time to get serious and come up with a configuration that will hopefully get those to the left of median playing. [Read on at their site]
